StopGovGreed.com was established as a way for citizens to fight back against political appointees who use public funds for their personal luxuries. In April 2008 it came to light that members of the Orange County Fair Board, appointed by Governor Schwarzenegger, used their position as volunteer members of the board to give themselves $376,532 worth of Concert tickets for the Pacific Amphitheatre. Along with the concert tickets the Fair board also allotted themselves and their associates $399,000 in catered dinners and thousands of free admissions to the fair. Over the last 5 years the Orange County Fair board has given themselves and their cronies over $988,000 in tickets and meals. After being warned several times by auditors, the Fair Board has refused to comply with state guidelines that cap the use of public funds. As a result, not only have the board members put in jeopardy state funding for the fair and the viability of the Pacific Amphitheatre, they have also wasted public money and denied the intended availability of Fair tickets to charity organizations. In this era of growing government greed and favoritism we now have the chance to do something about it starting right here in our own backyard. Make a difference and write to Governor Shwarzenegger and Secretary Kawamura of the Department of Food and Agriculture who oversees the Fair. Request that they force the Orange County Fair Board to comply with state guidelines. Click the “Letters” link to get the address and a sample letter.
